Meeting Compensation Disclosure

Pursuant to Government Code Section 54952.3:  Disclosure of compensation for meeting attendance by City Council Members is $650 monthly regardless of the amount of meetings.
IV.

Proclamations, Certificates, Introductions and Ceremonial Actions


 

1. Proclamation Declaring April 21, 2018, as the City's 13th Annual Earth Day Celebration

The City Council will issue a Proclamation declaring April 21, 2018, as the Thirteenth Annual Earth Day Celebration in the City of South Gate.  (PW)
 

2. Certificates of Appreciation to the 2017 Azalea Queen and Grand Marshal

The City Council will present Certificates of Appreciation to 2017 Azalea Queen Toni Martinez and 2017 Grand Marshal Ed King in recognition of their outstanding service to the South Gate community this past year.  (PARKS)
 

3. Certificates of Appreciation to the 2017 Miss Azaleita Court and introduction of the 2018 Miss Azaleita Court

The City Council will:  (PARKS)

a. Present Certificates of Appreciation to the outgoing Miss Azaleita Court 2017 in recognition of their dedicated service to the community; and

b. Introduce the incoming Miss Azaleita Court 2018 and present them with City lapel pins.
 

4. Certificates of Appreciation to the 2017 Miss South Gate Court and introduction of the 2018 Miss South Gate Court

The City Council will:  (PARKS)

a. Present Certificates of Appreciation to the outgoing Miss South Gate Court 2017 in recognition of their dedicated service to the community; and

b. Introduce the incoming Miss South Gate Court 2018 and present them with a City lapel pin.
 

5. Certificate of Appreciation to Hollydale School for receiving the 2018 Schools to Watch Award

The City Council will present a Certificate of Appreciation to Hollydale School for receiving the 2018 Schools to Watch – Taking Center Stage award.  (ADMIN)
 

6. Certificates of Appreciation to Independence Elementary & Magnet School students for placing 4th in a robotics competition

The City Council will present Certificates of Appreciation to the Indy Rockets Robotics Team from Independence Elementary & Magnet School for presenting and placing 4th in the Local District East and South Vex Robotics League Competition.
 

7. Certificates of Appreciation to San Miguel Avenue Elementary School students for placing 10th in a robotics competition

The City Council will present a Certificates of Appreciation to San Miguel Avenue Elementary School students for presenting and placing 10th in the California State Robotics Competition.
 

8. City Council Re-organization: Nomination/Selection of Mayor and Vice Mayor; Oaths of Office

The City Council will:  (ADMIN)

a. Re-organize by selecting a new Mayor and new Vice Mayor for a one year term; the selection will be ratified by a majority vote of the City Council; and

b. The Oaths of Office will be administered to the newly selected Mayor and Vice Mayor.
 

9. City Council appointments to City Commissions and Committees

The City Council will consider making appointments to City Commissions and Committees; the appointments will be ratified by a majority vote of the City Council.  (ADMIN)
 

10. City Council appointments to outside Boards and Agencies

The City Council will consider making appointments to outside boards and agencies; the appointments will be ratified by a majority vote of the City Council.  (ADMIN)
V.

Comments from the Audience

During this time, members of the public and staff may address the City Council regarding any items within the subject matter jurisdiction of the City Council. Comments from the audience will be limited to five (5) minutes per speaker; unless authorized by the Mayor, the time limit may not be extended by utilizing another member's time. There will be no debate or action on items not listed on the agenda unless authorized by law.

Note:  The City Council desires to provide all members of the public with the opportunity to address the Council.  Nevertheless, obscene language, comments intended to disrupt or interfere with the progress of the meeting or slanderous comments will not be tolerated and may result in ejection and/or may constitute a violation of South Gate Municipal Code Section 1.04.110.
VI.

Reports and Comments From City Officials

During this time, members of the City Council will report on matters pertaining to their service on various intergovenmental boards and commissions as a representative of the City pursuant to Assembly Bill 1234.  City Council Members will also have an opportunity to comment on matters not on the agenda.

Following the City Council Members, reports and comments will be heard by the City Clerk, City Treasurer, City Manager and Department Heads.
VII.

Consent Calendar Items

Agenda Items 11 and 12 are consent Calendar Items.  All items including Ordinances, Resolutions and Contracts, may be approved by adoption of the Consent Calendar, individually and collectively by one (1) motion.  There will be no separate discussion of these items unless Members of the City Council, the public, or staff request that specific items be removed from the Consent Calendar for separate discussion and action.

Any Motion to introduce or adopt an Ordinance on the Consent Calendar shall be: (1) a motion to waive the reading of the Ordinance and introduce the Ordinance or (2) a motion to waive the reading of the Ordinance and adopt the Ordinance, as appropriate.
 

11. Ordinance No. 2346 deleting Sections of Title 8 (Traffic) pertaining to the Traffic Committee

The City Council will consider waiving the reading in full and adopt Ordinance No. 2346 - dissolving the defunct Traffic Committee repealing Sections 8.04.040 (Traffic Committee), 8.04.050 (Membership of the Traffic Committee), 8.04.060 (Authority of the Traffic Committee) and 8.04.070 (Meetings, Staff, Agendas, Minutes), of Chapter 8.04 (Traffic Administration), of Title 8 (Traffic), of the South Gate Municipal Code.  (PW)
 

12. Resolution supporting the “Reducing Crime and Keeping California Safe Act 2018”

The City Council will consider adopting a Resolution                        supporting the “Reducing Crime and Keeping California Safe Act of 2018.”
