Lieutenant Evelyn Garcia started her career with the City of South Gate at the age of 14 as a student worker. Her law enforcement career began when she became a Police Explorer at the age of 17 and later worked as a Community Service Officer and Parking Enforcement Officer. In 2006 she was hired as a Police Officer and graduated from the Rio Hondo Police Academy in 2007.
As a police officer she worked Patrol and was a General Investigations Detective until she promoted to Sergeant in May of 2015. As a Sergeant she was assigned to Patrol and supervised the Community Relations Team, MHELP, and the Recruitment Team. Most recently, she became the first female at South Gate PD to promote to Police Lieutenant in January of 2020. Throughout the years, she has shown a great deal of pride, dedication, and commitment to our Police Department and our Community.
