Economic Development
The City of South Gate Economic Development Division (EDD) works to provide an integrated approach to attracting, retaining and expanding a diversity of businesses in the city. The city’s EDD goals are to support the creation of jobs, stimulate economic activity that grows the local tax base, and strategically position the city and its businesses to better compete in the economy.

Economic Development Strategy
In May 2016, the South Gate City Council included in its goals for the 2017-2018 fiscal year a plan to “encourage economic development and workforce development” and, specifically, to “create an economic development planning document and vision for the city.” There are four core areas of focus that guide city leaders towards the development and implementation of a successful economic development plan that will ensure sustainable development and success for current and future residents. Local Economic Advisory Program
In 2018, the City collaborated with the California Academy for Economic Development (CALED) to facilitate the preparation of a LEAP program in South Gate to provide recommendations on how the City can better support small businesses. Below is the LEAP Report for the City of South Gate.
